COMMENTS: My dear Nina, Thank you for including me on this honored list. You work is incredible...... so very moving and relevant and poignant and a MUCH NEEDED voice....... I especially enjoyed the words of Joe Montangna (sp?) We need to NOT look at the problems through political views...... but we need to do something about the problem. As you know I saw PTSS up close with my father although it was not called that back then. My daddy AND his family paid for that war his entire life. As a result of my book I have spent so much time with Veterans as you have in the making of this film and whatever war they were a part of left them with a huge burden to carry. One can NOT imagine combat on a daily basis. the constant adrenaline rush alone is beyond comprehension. If you have ever been in a fistfight or a car wreck or if you almost stumbled over a cliff..... THERE is that rush...... constant combat is THAT feeling for hours at a time. there is NO way for it NOT to leave a mark if your fortunate to have survived with your ass intact! NOW...... I am NOT an anti war person. Sometimes when a bully keeps on beating you up you have to suck it up bash his head on before he eventually kills you. So, sometimes war IS a necessity in my humble opinion as horrible as it may be. even now there are people in this world who want to kill us and our children and cut off our heads..... THIS is a reality and they will NOT sit around a campfire and sing cum ba ya with us. I wish they would...... but the real world dictates that we MUST defeat them...... and THEN comes the sacrifice AND the problems that we are talking about. I hope that your film provides a wake up call to those who can make sure that our VETERANS are cared for. I DO believe that there are many who DO care and know what is right... Over the course of daddy's stroke and illness that was ALL WW2 related so many at the VA DID care and DID step up to help although much of that was because my mom LILLIE NEVER let UP on them.... :) I will quit rambling Nina but again I thank you. You are doing a great work here that has the potential to make a difference. A wake up call of sorts!!!! We need to take CARE of those who have been willing to but their ASS and their FUTURE on the line for YOU and I both!!! Blessings NINA........ Joe Bonsall, The Oak Ridge Boys. I just watched the promo....sitting here with tears in my eyes.....after the emotion , I thought...how fortunate am I to have a small part in the production of this film. I am very proud of you, The promo is powerful, engrossing and deserves to be seen by everyone. Hopefully, it will promote change in the way that we view those who gave of themselves for this country. I loved the opening theme also. It was perfect. Thanks for calling me (over two yrs ago) and asking for my assistance. You hit the ball out of the park. Love, Mikey Nina... All I have to say is... WOW!!!! You are going to open eyes and make a statement that people will never forget. I am happy for you... and proud and honored to be your friend!!! I felt very humbled after watching the promo. Keep up the great work!!!! IT WILL BE AWESOME!!! XOXO, Linda Nina, we just finished viewing the promo of your documentary, When Jane and Johnny Come Marching Homeless. It's just what we need to shake us out of our acquiescence. May God reward you a hundredfold for your sensitivity and compassion that prompted you to tackle this topic, and your hard work and dedication in bringing it this far. Anxiously looking forward to seeing the full story. Josie and Gilda Giuliano Nina, once again, great job. I can not imagine how long something like this would take to put together. Also, it could not come at a better time. Marvin Gaye was right, "war is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate". It's difficult looking at the "seedy" part of our society. Asking people to go and defend in the name of "country" has long term implications as we have found. looking forward to seeing the whole product. Proud to have you as a friend, XOXOX,John
Nina, It was a pleasure being with you last week. Hopefully your work will open some eyes and help people understand the severity of our homeless situation. It is horrible when we see the way humans live down there (Skid Row), and even worse when we realize that some of those souls are veterans. A lot of people have given up on them but we will continue to try and save as many as we can. I am glad you are on our side. Tyrone Ballesteros, US Army, 82nd ABN Veteran & Office Manager, National Veterans Foundation, Los Angeles. Nina, Thank you. If only all of us would attempt to make a small dent, think of the huge impact we could accomplish. God bless you in all your endeavors. Albert Zayas, USMC Veteran & Executive Assistant, Information Specialist Representative for the National Veterans Foundation, Los Angeles. I want to take a moment to commend you, and thank you, for your work. As a Vietnam vet I have watched what this current administration has done to our military, and worried about the men and women coming back from service overseas. I know what happened to my generation and what could happen to these fine young soldiers. To be ignored after putting your life on the line can be devastating. It is comforting to know someone is out there fighting for truth. We just don't see enough of it. It is important that America does not forget us. Rory Copeland, Vietnam Veteran If there is anything I can do to be a part of this please let me know. Also I want to thank you for my agency and especially for myself and my staff for your care, concern and genuine passion for the homeless veteran and the New Directions mission. As far as I am concerned you deserve a plaque on our honorable person board. It is we the veteran, the recovering addict/alcoholic, and the formerly homeless that owe you the thanks. Your project not only spotlights the problem of homelessness, you also spotlight that we do recover and can lead normal lives. Because of people like you who give a lot more than lip service to this issue the world will get to see our humanity. Anthony Belcher- Former Homeless Veteran, now Assessment Center & Outreach Supervisor, New Directions, Los Angeles I am pleased to see someone focused on this terrible problem. Please dig deep somehow, for the answer is begging for a resolution that may allow the veterans to find again an acceptable life. Good luck in your effort. I will look for your presentation. Sincerely, Charles K Rogers, Army Veteran, Korean War I think it's a great idea that's long overdue. Our country's history of treatment of our veterans is shameful. I am glad to know that someone is focusing attention on these people who answered our country's call to arms only to find that when they needed help the country turned its back on them. Good luck on your efforts in this project! Dennis Burfete, Philadelphia Nina, Thanks again for meeting with us yesterday. We are always appreciative when someone tries to bring to light the issues that usually go unnoticed here. I want to thank you also for your patience and compassion with Thomas. He is a very private person, but you made him feel extremely comfortable, and in doing so he was able to communicate openly with the camera. I think that you will have a long and successful career as a director. Thanks again, Jonathan Robins, Housing Specialist, Community Housing Services, Lansdale, PA Nina, I am really looking forward to checking in on the progress of the documentary. Your work is so incredibly important and the stories are so powerful; I am certain much good will come from your work. Peace, Joan- Joan Dawson McConnon, Co-Founder of Project H.O.M.E., Philadelphia, PA Nina, I am very impressed with the creative range and your accomplishments that seem just a promise of what all you'll do up ahead. I'm looking forward to seeing you one of these days.
